Dancing with the Devil
The idea for Dancing with the Devil came about a couple of years ago but I just never wrote lyrics that resonated. I always like to share the story that when I decided I wanted this song to be on this record, I walked into the session and told the guys, “I really don’t have lyrics or any frame of reference for sound. But I’d like to do a modern take on the “Devil Went Down to Georgia” and I know that I want it to be a bass-heavy, cinematic vibe.” Derek (producer) and Robere (guitarist) absolutely knocked the sound out of the park and we had so much fun getting to put this song together.
“Dancing with the Devil” was written & recorded right after “Faith” and to me, it really reflects the balance of struggling between battling inner demons while finding & maintaining faith. Lyrically, this song represents the struggles of societal “devils” such as alcohol, drugs, infidelity, peer pressure, and body image. Though you may dance with the devil, you will always have your wings—it’s up to you to spread them and rise from the ashes.
